KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is opening the application process for anyone at least 21 who wants to become an officer.
The window is now open until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8 and applications can be submitted through three websites:
1- https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/kalamazoomi
2- https://www.kalamazoopublicsafety.org
3- https://www.joinkdps.org
People have to fill out an application, be subject to an extensive background investigation, undergo medical, psychological, and drug testing, pass MCOLES testing, and be interviewed.
Officials stress people do not need previous police, fire, or medical first responder certifications to be considered. That training will happen if someone is hired.
People that are currently employed by another police, fire, or public safety agency in good standing can also transfer up to three years of service toward the wage scale and receive a $15,000 hiring bonus.
